th Grade girls from Northern Middle School were selected to attend the Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) Conference at Somerset Community College on November 3rdGEMS is a program that was created to encourage female students to consider mathematics-oriented and science-oriented careers and to help build their confidence in the subject areas. Students participated in workshops that explored careers in Emergency Medical services, Physics/Engineering, Criminal Justice, Nursing, 3D Printing/Virtual Reality, and Construction.

G2TECS

Somerset Community College (SCC) recently hosted a Guys Geared Up for Technology, Engineering, Computers and Science, called G2-TECS, on the SCC Somerset campus. Students from 13 area middle schools participated in the conference. 16 students from NMS attended. G2-TECS was created as a way to encourage students to consider mathematics-oriented and science-oriented careers and to gain confidence in mathematics and science. Each student participated in hands-on workshops such as Emergency Medical Services –Paramedic, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Physics and Engineering, Augmented Reality and Radiography.
