Safe School Committee Meeting Minutes

September 3, 2008

Members present: Rita Lukat, Mark Morgan, Glynis Clayton, Dale Dodson, Kathy Sampson, Samantha Ping Stevens, Cindy Price, and Debbie Wiles

Members absent:

I. Minutes were read from May 8, 2008 meeting.

1.      Introductions and Committee charges were reviewed.

2.      Kentucky Center for School Safety website –Ms. Stevens will check for updates.

3.      Mrs. Wiles briefly explained current school programs.

4.      Committee will be checking rooms for posted procedures – Ms. Sampson will do Blue and green hall, Ms. Lukat will do tan hall, Ms. Clayton will do yellow hall, Mr. Dodson will do red hall, and Mr. Morgan will do hall by guidance.

5.      Ms. Lukat will get with Ms. Hargis regarding the Crisis Plan.

6.      Safe School conference is October 6-7. No funding available for attendance.

7.      October 19-25 is Kentucky Safe School week.

8.      Ms. Stevens and Ms. Price voiced concerns over parents parking in the lot when dropping off students and allowing them to walk through moving traffic instead of waiting in line. Mrs. Murphy said she would have officer McCullum to observe the situation. They also were concerned with parents parking on the road while waiting for or watching football practice. This along with small children unsupervised playing and darting in and out makes it a dangerous and congested area and with traffic of other parents picking up students from basketball practices etc.
