NMS Expectations for Safety Drills

FIRE /TORNADO/ LOCK DOWN/ EARTHQUAKE  Safety Drills

Teacher

1.    Follow specific drill procedure using appropriate evacuation paths and report directly to your designated safe area

2.    Close your door as you leave the classroom

3.    Take your class roster to the designated safe area

4.    Take attendance immediately and report any missing students to the nearest radio (all team leaders and administrators have radios as well as other designated staff)

5.    Remain with the students in the safe area ensuring that they are quiet and maintaining safe position until released to return to class

Student

1.    Follow all drill procedures and teacher directions when exiting the building or reporting to designated safe area

2.    Consider all drills to be “real” and treat them seriously

3.    Report to the designated safe area in a swift and organized manor, following teacher requests, and without talking. 

4.    When your name is called, respond loudly that you are present and help the teacher account for any missing students

5.    Remain with your class in the safe area and/or in the designated safe position until your teacher releases you to enter the building or return to class
