NORTHERN MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMIC TEAM MEMBERS
ADVANCE TO KAAC STATE FINALS
Northern Middle School’s Academic team has advanced 11 events to KAAC State Finals to be held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, KY on March 15-17, 2008. Northern will be competing in Community Problem Solving, Future Problem Solving, and Written Assessment Events.
At the regional competition, which was held at Adair County Middle School on February 16, Northern’s team finished fourth overall out of the 17 participating schools. The Future Problem Solving team finished first overall. Haley Stockham finished 1st in Arts and Humanities and 4th in Language Arts. Drew Stringer finished 2nd in Social Studies. These events all advanced to state competition. Last year, Northern Middle School’s Academic Team finished 10th overall in the State Governor’s Cup competition.
In addition, Northern also had a Future Problem Solving to qualify in the Junior Division. They also have a Junior Community Problem Solving team and a Middle Grades Community Problem Solving Team. Four students are also completing Individual Community Problem Solving projects. These students hope to win bids to the Future Problem Solving Program International Conference to be held in Lansing, MI on May 28-June 1, 2008. Last year, Northern brought home two international titles, two 2nd place awards and had 8 events to place in the top 10 at the international competition.
Students advancing to State competition include: Tiphani Baker, Kelsey Chaney, Laura Cherry, Mark Cherry, Casey Clark, Rossi Clark, Mackenzi Cooper, Ben Crawford, Brittany Ferrell, Angel Harris, Evan Holbrook, Dalton Lovins, Grayson Murphy, Gerek Patrick, Rachel Phelps, Shelbie Phelps, Sarah Price, Haley Stockham, Katherine Stockham, Drew Stringer, Steven Thompson, Sarah Wiles, and Zach Wooldridge. The team is coached by Scott Sexton and Denna Reynolds.
