Assistant Principal

Wayne Craft

Hello! Thanks for visiting my page. I am starting my 4th year as assistant principal at Northern Middle School. The 2014-15 school year marks my nineteenth year in education, and I have loved every minute. My background is in math and physics education, and I taught several years in these areas, first in the Hancock County School system (2 years) then in Pulaski County Schools (SWHS - 3 years, PCHS- 10 years), before becoming assistant principal at Northern Middle School in 2011-12.

We have a wonderful staff at NMS and our students are second to none! I love seeing the transformation of our students as they progress from 6th to 8th grade. Our students are champions and I am so proud of them all. My message to our current crop of students is "I want you to Win. You can... you will... you are... you did!" I also want you to know that "Once a Maroon, Always a Maroon" and know that I am here to serve you now, but also in the future. I have written students and former students hundreds of recommendation letters for colleges, scholarships, and jobs. I want to help you achieve your dreams!

My philosophy of education is that the best learning comes from within. Students (and adults) can learn anything, no matter how difficult, if they are motivated from the inside. Our job as educators is to make learning fun, interesting and relevant. It is amazing to see the fruits of our labors when we do this. During my nineteen years I have watched as students learned math and physics, then apply this knowledge to build robots, guitars, and hover crafts, and many other amazing gadgets. I have seen students score near perfect on the ACT and collectively my students have received millions of dollars in scholarships. NMS students, you can do it too!

My wife and I have four children, who keep us hopping with their various activities! There is never a dull moment at home. We are avid Kentucky Wildcats basketball fans, and should mention that I have a Bachelor of Arts from UK. I enjoy playing mandolin, guitar and upright bass, and I play almost every weekend in a church somewhere in the area with my wife and the Chimney Rock Boys. I am a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Every new school year brings excitement, and I can't wait to get the 2014-15 campaign started. Our staff have worked hard all summer to prepare learning experiences for our students. We are ready for another successful year!
